Sarah Eaton has been teaching Language Arts to freshmen and juniors at Rootstown High School since 2010; in the two years prior to that, she taught high school level public speaking as well as the gifted and talented program for students in grades 5-8. Sarah earned her Bachelors of Science in Education degree in Integrated Language Arts (grades 7-12) from Kent State University in 2006, and then went on to complete her Masters of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on Gifted & Talented Education at Cleveland State University in 2011.
She was a class adviser at RHS for six years, which included helping students plan their Prom one year and Graduation another. She also has coached Future Problem Solving Program teams, manages and maintains their school gradebook program, mentors new and student teachers, as well as periodically volunteering for other responsibilities. Sarah routinely attends various types of professional development, including monthly arts integration workshops at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square.
She was inspired to apply for the Teachers for Global Classrooms fellowship after being a partner teacher in International Leaders in Education Program - a program which brings experienced international teachers to the US for a semester. Her primary goal in participating was to continue both her personal and professional education so that she can be a leader and role model for her peers and her students; she also hopes to increase her students’ understanding of diversity, culture, and differences as they live in an area with little to no diversity. Her time spent learning about global education and visiting India during June 2015 has changed her perspectives on our world and on education, as well a reawakened her passion for activism and teaching.
Sarah is married and lives with her husband and their rescue dog near Cleveland, Ohio. In her free time she loves exploring her city’s culture - food and art especially - and finding time to run and hike. She and her husband both have an extensive collection of music, movies, and literature. Sarah also spends time participating in her sorority, Chi Omega, as an alumnae board member and collegiate adviser.
